KHSU compiles station memorabilia in preparation for 50th anniversary

KHSU turns 50 in late 2010, and in preparation for our half century anniversary, station staff and volunteers have been busy assembling archival items that have been accumulating over the years in the various nooks and crannies of the station's studio and offices spaces.  KHSU74sp_Page_1.jpg

Station program guides, flyers, posters, news-clippings, photos and recordings on different forms of media are all being rounded up and either photographed or transferred to digital audio and images.  Archival Committee Chair Tom Cairns has been working on identifying and cataloging items for listeners to have easy access to KHSU's history with a click of the mouse.

A few of the collected and digitally recorded archive items are already accessible on the Humboldt Digital Scholar (HDS) web site.  Click here to access the KHSU archives.

A sample of some of the historical recorded news content includes KHSU volunteer Michael Fennell's 1984 live-on-the-spot CAMP report.  Also added to the archives is a reel to reel audio of an interview with the late environmental activist Judi Bari.  The interview was recorded a short time after the infamous car-bomb attack Bari and passenger Darryl Cherney experienced in Oakland in May of 1990.

KHSU Volunteer Coordinator Beth Rogers is working to get the word out to people who have been involved with the station over the years.  KHSU is hoping to hear from former KHSU deejays, staff and volunteers through HSU alumni channels and encourage them to give us a paragraph or a short story on their days with the radio station, or memorabilia items that can be added to the archive.

For more information on the station's archival project, or to lend photos, audio or other KHSU memorabilia, please call the radio station offices at  (707) 826-4807.
