Forest Service Reclamation Cleans Up Illegal Grow Sites

In a multi-agency effort, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service restored several illegal marijuana grow sites. Through Law Enforcement and Investigations, a grow site reclamation operation was conducted. The operation focused on eight sites in Trinity County, which impact the South Fork of the Trinity River was completed from May 8 to May 11, 2018. 

Humboldt County growers may be anticipating the next Board of Supervisors meeting on April 10th, but for some conservationists, the effects of the new legal cannabis market are posing some ecological threats. That’s according to Scott Greacen, conservation director with Friends of the Eel River and Craig Tucker, the Natural Resources Policy Advocate for the Karuk Tribe.

Shane Anderson

"It wasn't until filming that I realized how large and wild the Eel River Watershed is," explains documentary filmmaker Shane Anderson on the KHSU Magazine. Anderson spoke with KHSU host Brian Curtis about using film as a tool to having an impact on conservation issues on the Eel River.  "A River's Last Chance: A Story of Salmon, Timber, Weed and Wine along California's Mighty Eel River" will be screened Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Eureka Theater.


“We want to know if people support on-site consumption of cannabis and whether they want to see that in the downtown Arcata area,” explains Jeanette Todd of Arcata Main Street. Todd and Brian Curtis discuss a survey Arcata Main Street is distributing to businesses on the Arcata Plaza to determine if recreational cannabis shops will be welcomed on the Plaza. 


If you've been convicted of marijuana-related crimes in California, you might be able to have your record wiped clean or the charges greatly reduced under a provision in the state's new marijuana law, Prop 64. More than 4,000 people have already petitioned the courts about their records and sentencing.

California State Water Board is holding a workshop  in Eureka  today at 10 a.m.in the Adorni Center for those involved in cannabis cultivation. Daniel Schultz, Environmental Program Manager in the Cannabis Section,  spoke with Brian Curtis on the KHSU Magazine about various new regulations that will begin on January 1, 2018. The workshop is free and all are encouraged to attend.

Humboldt County Local Election: Unofficial Results

The most recent unofficial results were released this week by the Humboldt County Elections Office. The final results which are released afterwards may reflect slightly different numbers. 

Bonnie Deister of Ferndale led the race for the College of the Redwoods Board of Trustees Area 1 with 56.67 percent of the vote. Opponent and incumbent, also from Ferndale, Tracy Coppini, had 42.85 percent as of Monday night.
