KHSU NEW MUSIC ARRIVALS FOR MAY 13, 2016
CONTEMPORARY R& B-SOUL: UK soul artist Corinne Bailey Rae releases her first full-length recording in six years since her previous darker album, The Sea. With her new work, The Heart Speaks In Whispers, 

Rae offers a brighter, upbeat and pop-oriented offering. Here’s a recent NPR First Listen

FOLK: Toronto-based singer-songwriter Kaia Kater takes her Americana seriously; she’s a recent 
graduate of the Appalachian Program from West Virginia's Davis & Elkins College. Kater’s debut, Nine 
Pin, also drew attention from Rolling Stone, who recently featured her in an article, “10 New Country

Hailing from rural Saskatchewan, singer KacyAnderson and fingerstyle guitarist Clayton Linthicum (they are cousins) are making their U.S. debut with their fourth overall album, Strange County, recalling contemporaries Gillian Welch-Dave Rawlings and Casey Musgraves, with impressive results. JAZZ: Acclaimed trumpet player and composer Cuong Vu and his trio, consisting of bassist Stomu

Takeishi and bassist Ted Poor, are joined by one of Vu’s mentors, guitarist Pat Metheny, for Vu’s new

Veteran soprano saxophonist-composer, Jane Ira Bloom, releases her first trio

Grammy nominated vocalist-composer Rene Marie delivers an 
excellent new work, The Sound Of Red, which consists of all-original compositions and is co-produced
by Marie herself. The Sound Of Red also features bassist Elias Bailey, drummer Quentin Baxter and 
pianist John Chin, with guest appearances by trumpeter Etienne Charles and saxophonist Diego

ROCK: Based in Shreveport, LA, Seratones, a young band who participated in NPR’s first Tiny Desk 
Contest for unsigned, undiscovered talent. Even though they didn’t win, Seratones snagged a record 
deal with Fat Possum, delivering their superb debut, Get Gone, a terrific combination of garage rock, 
swamp blues and ‘70s guitar rock, punctuated by their dynamic vocalist, A.J. Haynes. Here’s a

Artist-musician-composer  Anohni, formerly known as Antony Hegerty of Antony and the 
Johnsons, tackles world issues and current politics with his new, powerful work, Hopelessness. Here’s
